From their beginnings in the silent film era to the latest science fiction productions, we have seen how these machines have evolved on the big screen, reflecting our ideas about the future, technology and humanity.
The first steps: pioneering robots
Robots burst into cinema at the beginning of the 20th century, in films such as Metropolis (1927) and then The Bicentennial Man (1999), where topics such as artificial intelligence, ethics and the relationship between humans and machines were explored. These robots were more of a mechanical automata, but they laid the foundation for the development of more complex robotic characters in the future.
Animated robots: from cuteness to action
Animated robot movies conquered audiences of all ages. From the Astroboy series (1963), the endearing robot with a human heart, to WALL-E (2008), a little robot in love who moved us with his story of love and hope on a devastated planet. In this genre, we also find series and movies about giant robots such as Mazinger Z (1972) and Evangelion (1995), which show us epic battles against large enemies.
Robot fighters: adrenaline and punches
If you like strong emotions, fighting robot movies are for you. From Real Steel (2011), where boxing robots face each other in vibrant combat, to Transformers (2007) and Pacific Rim (2013), where colossal robots defend humanity from alien threats.
A future with robots: threat or hope?
Robot movies invite us to reflect on the future of technology and our role in it. Some warn us about the dangers of uncontrolled artificial intelligence, as in The Terminator (1984), I, Robot (2004) or Ex Machina (2015). Others offer us a more optimistic vision, where robots and humans coexist in harmony, as in Big Hero 6 (2014).
We already mentioned some of the most representative robot movies. There is a wide variety of movies to discover, come explore!
